Brune & Bareskin Sets Sights on Becoming India’s Homegrown Luxury Leather House With Global Ambitions and Craft-Led Expansion

In India, more and more cool, well-designed brands are popping up, made for people who appreciate quality and real craftsmanship. One of these brands is Brune & Bareskin, an Indian company that makes leather shoes and accessories. They’re aiming big, trying to become a major luxury name in leather, with plans to sell everywhere – in stores, online, and even internationally.

Tabby Bhatia started Brune & Bareskin back in 2015 with a pretty simple idea: to make top-notch leather goods in India, using Indian talent. It began as a side project – Bhatia made leather jackets to go with his Harley Davidson. Now, it’s a well-known brand that’s been around for about ten years, selling to customers both online and in physical stores.

They started with around ₹1 crore, which they mainly spent on setting up their workshop, getting good leather, and making samples. Instead of rushing to get big quickly, Brune & Bareskin focused on making really good stuff. That’s still how they approach growing their business.

They started by selling online to see if people liked their stuff, which kept costs down. When things took off, they opened their first store in Jalandhar, and then more in other cities like Bathinda, Delhi, and Ludhiana. Now, you can find them on their own website, on other online marketplaces, in some partner stores, and they’re even doing corporate gifts – a good mix of online and offline sales.

Right now, about 60% of their money comes from online sales, and 40% from their stores. As they open more stores, they expect those numbers to even out, which seems to be the trend with other brands like them. People still like going to stores for a nice experience, especially when buying fancy stuff.

Brune & Bareskin doesn’t just sell shoes anymore. They also have bags, travel gear, jackets, and do custom corporate gifts. With all the different options, including custom designs, they offer over 1,500 different items, all made by hand in their own workshop. This means they can keep a close eye on the quality and design, which sets them apart from other similar brands.

The company is doing well. Sales went up to ₹21 crore in FY25 from ₹15.7 crore in FY23, and they’re aiming for ₹25 crore this year. They’re hoping to hit ₹500 crore in sales in the next five years and open over 125 stores in India and other countries. That would definitely make them one of the fastest-growing lifestyle brands around.

They’re planning to open over 20 new stores next year, especially in South India and in big cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Chandigarh. They’re also looking to expand to the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and some countries in Europe, where people really like handmade leather stuff.

They usually spend between 8-12% of their money on marketing. They’re planning to make some brand videos, tell stories about their custom designs, and even use AR so people can try on their products virtually. They’re also thinking about using WhatsApp to sell things, which seems to be where things are headed.

More and more Indian brands are focusing on being high-quality and founder-led. Brune & Bareskin shows that Indian luxury isn’t just about copying others anymore – it’s about being yourself, making great products, and being confident on a global scale.
