Indore-based social media startup Shuru has secured an undisclosed amount in its Series A funding round, with Krafton India—creator of Battlegrounds Mobile India—leading the investment. The round also included participation from Omidyar Network India, Eximius Ventures, and Shastra VC. This funding highlights growing investor confidence in the startup’s mission to build a hyperlocal social network that strengthens real-world community ties in both urban and rural India.

Founded by seasoned entrepreneurs Mayank Bhangadia and Harsh Chhabra—both previously involved in fashion video platform Roposo—Shuru is designed to bridge the digital divide by connecting neighbors and local communities through a location-based social media platform. The app enables users to interact with people in their locality, support small businesses, organize events, and participate in civic life, fostering a sense of belonging and collective action.
Krafton’s involvement signals its broader interest in India’s digital space beyond gaming. By backing Shuru, the gaming giant is strategically investing in platforms that drive local engagement and build sustainable online communities rooted in geographic proximity.
The startup plans to use the new funds to expand its user base, enhance product capabilities, and scale operations across multiple Indian cities and towns. With India’s internet user base growing rapidly in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, Shuru is tapping into a massive opportunity to create meaningful digital interactions at the grassroots level.
As hyperlocal digital platforms gain traction in India, Shuru stands out by not just connecting users, but by strengthening neighborhoods and empowering communities to take ownership of their social environments. With strong backing and a clear vision, Shuru is well-positioned to lead the charge in reshaping how India connects—one neighborhood at a time.
