INTENT Launches Bamboo-Fibre “Body Sense” Lifestyle Brand

Founder Arpita Rout has launched INTENT, a natural-performance lifestyle brand built around a simple, unfashionable idea: that clothing designed specifically for Indian heat, humidity, and air-conditioned commutes should feel different from clothing designed for anywhere else and merely sold here.

The brand’s core proposition, what it calls “Body Sense Fibre,” centers on bamboo-based fabrics chosen for how they behave against skin in genuinely Indian conditions, not for how they read on a spec sheet. The debut collection spans T-shirts, oversized silhouettes, activewear, and everyday essentials meant to move fluidly between a work day, a flight, a workout, and a weekend, without the wearer needing four different wardrobes to do it.

“The future of everyday wear does not need to be louder or more complicated,” Rout said of the brand’s founding idea. “It needs to be more intelligent, more comfortable, and more intentional.” That’s a deliberately understated pitch in a category that usually sells itself on performance claims and technical jargon, and it’s a bet that resonates with where Indian apparel consumption is actually heading: away from loud logos and toward fabrics and fit that simply work, day after day, wear after wear.

INTENT is starting direct-to-consumer only, selling exclusively through its own website rather than launching across marketplaces or retail partners from day one — a sequencing choice that lets the brand learn who its actual repeat customer is before it spends on wider distribution.

It’s a genuinely crowded moment to launch a natural-fibre apparel brand in India; conscious comfort and sustainable fabrics have become one of the most contested positioning battles in the category over the past two years. What will separate INTENT from the pack won’t be the bamboo-fibre story itself, since several competitors already tell a version of it convincingly. It will be whether the “designed for India” promise holds up in practice: whether the fit, the breathability, and the price actually earn repeat purchases once the launch-week attention fades. For India’s fast-growing wellness-adjacent apparel category, INTENT is a fresh entrant worth watching precisely because its pitch is this specific, and this testable.
