Tech-enabled driving education and mobility startup Lane has raised ₹8.5 crore in a pre-seed funding round led by Kae Capital, with participation from DeVC, Antler India, Panthera Peak, and several angel investors.
The fresh capital will be used to accelerate geographic expansion, strengthen Lane’s instructor network across Bengaluru and other Tier I cities, build proprietary sensor technology, and expand into adjacent mobility services, including car ownership solutions.

Founded with the objective of making Indian roads safer through structured driving education, Lane is building a technology-first platform that extends beyond conventional driving schools. Alongside driving lessons, the Bengaluru-based startup now offers car purchase assistance, RTO services, and other mobility-related solutions. According to the company, nearly 60% of its learners intend to purchase their first car, creating opportunities to build an integrated customer journey beyond driving education.
The market opportunity remains significant. India records more than 1.7 lakh road fatalities annually, equivalent to nearly 20 deaths every hour. Despite accounting for only around 1% of the world’s vehicles, the country contributes approximately 11% of global road deaths, highlighting the urgent need for better driver training and road safety initiatives.
Lane says it has delivered over 30,000 hours of driving instruction to more than 3,100 learners within just 18 months. Before launching commercially, the company conducted more than 400 hours of pilot classes, working with automobile researchers to design a safety-first curriculum. Today, instructors are evaluated across 15 driving parameters, including simulated driving assessments, helping standardize teaching quality through technology.
The broader mobility ecosystem continues to attract investor interest as startups digitize traditionally fragmented services spanning driving education, professional driver services, fleet management, and electric mobility. While funding dedicated specifically to driving education remains relatively limited, adjacent mobility categories continue to witness strong capital inflows, reflecting growing confidence in technology-led mobility solutions.
Lane’s latest funding marks another step toward modernizing one of India’s most traditional service categories. By combining technology, standardized instruction, and value-added mobility services, the company aims to create a more comprehensive platform for first-time drivers while contributing to safer roads and a more organized driving education ecosystem.
As consumer mobility evolves, Lane’s integrated approach positions it to benefit from rising vehicle ownership, increasing demand for structured driver training, and the digital transformation of India’s mobility sector.
