Sabyasachi Expands Into Fragrance, Footwear And Leather Goods

The luxury house is broadening its categories, scaling eyewear and building international ready-to-wear as it targets a larger global lifestyle opportunity.

Sabyasachi is expanding beyond couture and jewellery as the luxury brand prepares to enter fragrances, small leather goods and footwear, while significantly scaling its eyewear business. The strategy is aimed at building a broader luxury lifestyle house and advancing founder and creative director Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s long-standing ambition of creating India’s first global luxury lifestyle brand.

The brand plans to launch its first fragrance within the next 18 months. Small leather goods, including wallets, are also being developed, with the category expected to broaden the brand’s ecosystem and create more frequent consumer engagement. Women’s and men’s footwear will follow fragrance, while eyewear is being built into a much larger category.

The expansion comes as Sabyasachi’s existing businesses continue to grow. Jewellery now contributes 33% of turnover, at around ₹200 crore, while accessories are expected to cross ₹100 crore this year. Overall, the brand recorded revenue of ₹650 crore in financial year 2026.

Mukherjee said the objective is not simply to add categories because of commercial opportunities. New businesses need to feel culturally and aesthetically authentic to the Sabyasachi identity. Eyewear, for example, has been part of the brand’s language almost from the beginning and initially developed through a collaboration with Morgenthal Frederics. The brand is now building the category independently at a much larger scale.

Sabyasachi is also developing international ready-to-wear, with the ambition of creating global luxury from a distinctly “Calcutta” point of view. Some products will be produced within its own ecosystem, while others will be developed with leading factories and ateliers globally.

The category expansion is designed to let customers engage with the brand more frequently without compromising its standards of quality, craftsmanship and integrity. Mukherjee said leather accessories and international ready-to-wear are becoming important, while fragrance and footwear will broaden the brand’s relationship with consumers. The approach prioritises long-term brand building over category opportunities.

The brand has moved into new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Calcutta and continues to invest in capacity, product development and the artisanal ecosystem behind its collections.

Its retail operations span Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and New York City. Rather than rapidly expanding stores, the brand uses exhibitions and partnerships with leading global retailers to understand markets before making permanent commitments.

With new categories, stronger manufacturing capabilities and international expansion, Sabyasachi is positioning itself as a more complete luxury house while maintaining the craftsmanship, quality and cultural identity that define the brand.
