The brand is combining evidence-led formulations, digital consumer engagement and offline retail to strengthen its position in India’s specialised skincare market.
Dermatologist-led skincare brand SKINQ is building its growth strategy around Indian and melanin-rich skin, focusing on evidence-led formulations and targeted solutions for concerns such as pigmentation, sensitivity, inflammation and sun exposure.
Co-founded by Ashish Mishra, the brand is responding to a shift in consumer behaviour as Indian buyers become more conscious of ingredients, formulations and the science behind skincare products. Consumers are increasingly looking for personalised products that address specific skin concerns rather than relying on broad, trend-driven solutions.
Mishra said SKINQ was built on the belief that skincare should be based on what the skin actually needs, rather than trends or an overload of ingredients.
“All our products are dermatologist formulated, sensitive skin tested and in-vivo tested on Indian skin,” he said.
SKINQ’s product development approach is built around its “Proof over promise” philosophy. The brand focuses on claims that can be measured or substantiated, with dermatological expertise and evidence positioned as key drivers of consumer trust.
The strategy comes as India’s skincare market becomes more competitive, with D2C brands, global beauty companies and pharmacy-led skincare players targeting increasingly informed consumers. Ingredient awareness, clinical evidence and formulation transparency are becoming important factors in purchase decisions.
Focus on Indian and Melanin-Rich Skin
SKINQ believes India’s diverse skin types, tones and concerns create an opportunity for specialised skincare brands. According to the company, the category has traditionally been approached through a relatively broad, one-size-fits-all lens.
Concerns such as pigmentation, inflammation and sun exposure can have different implications for melanin-rich skin. SKINQ is therefore focusing on skin health and targeted product development rather than only cosmetic outcomes.
The brand’s positioning also reflects growing demand for solutions related to acne, pigmentation, sensitivity and skin-barrier repair.
D2C and Offline Expansion
SKINQ has used D2C and social media to build its initial consumer base, communicate directly with consumers and make skincare education more accessible. Its digital channels also provide insights into customer preferences and product experiences.
However, the brand sees offline retail as an important part of its growth strategy. Mishra said consumers may want to physically experience products, seek guidance and build confidence before purchasing skincare.
This gives SKINQ an omnichannel model in which digital platforms support discovery and education, while offline retail strengthens trust, experience and conversion.
As consumers move towards more targeted skincare routines, SKINQ is seeking to establish itself as a science-backed brand built around Indian skin, dermatological expertise and long-term skin health.
